I'm a PhD student in the School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz, studying under the aegis of Professor Whitehead as a member of the the GRASE research group.

Since October, 2001, I've been working at the Ames Research Center, in Mountainview, CA, on the Mars Exploration Rover Collaborative Information Portal (MER-CIP, or simply CIP) project. CIP is a distributed, web-based information system which provides the MER mission scientists, engineers, operations personnel and management with the latest data products, mission status updates, schedules, broadcast announcements, and cetera. The system integrates several heteragenous data repositories under a single user interface, alleviating the need for users to remember where data is located. CIP is the latest in a series of systems that have evolved over the last ten years to take advantage of the latest web technologies and capabilities.

When not working or schooling, I like to get out and enjoy the wonderful environment I live in. Depending on the season this may entail sailing on Monterey Bay, hiking/biking in the Santa Cruz Mountains, rock climbing, or snowboarding in the Sierras. I also like visiting friends in San Francisco and try to catch good bands when they're in the area. When I have longer breaks, I tend to travel wherever the winds take me.
