I am a first year graduate student at UCSC, currently working with the Storage Systems Research Group. Currently my research is focused on the management of distributed metadata, with Professor Scott Brandt. Future research interests include integrated lifecycle management of data, object-based storage, and disaster recovery in large scale environments.

Sparrow: A Tool for Data Management Across Heterogeneous Platforms (pdf)
We propose a decentralized metadata management tool for ubiquitous control of distributed user data. The system provides users with a location transparent, single system view of data scattered across many heterogeneous machines. A peer-to-peer architecture allows scalable, fault tolerant access to data in the face of common node departures in an extremely wide-area network.
Format Independant Multicast of Heterogeneous Multimedia (pdf) We propose an architecture for multimedia multicast which allows many heterogeneous hosts to receive data in various media formats independent of the format in which the data was sent. Our architecture is built on top of an Internet Indirection Infrastructure (i3). i3 uses rendezvous-based communication to decouple the process of sending data from the process of receiving it. Rendezvous points, called triggers, will transcode multimedia into various formats. These triggers then forward data to hosts who have expressed interest in those triggers. This allows applications receiving multimedia to transparently access various data formats irregardless of the format in which it was sent.
